On March 25th, 2017, psychologists, graduate students, mental health counselors, and social workers came together to learn about gender identity, gender dysphoria, the issues faced by trans and gender non-conforming persons in today’s society, and best practices for therapists. The two presenters, Acey Mercer, LMSW of Choices Counseling and Consulting in Albany, NY and Kit Rachlin, Ph.D, a clinical psychologist and gender specialist who practices in NYC, shared a wealth of interesting information during the-half day conference. For those of you who couldn’t attend, both presenters are available for consultation and you can check out the website, http://www.wpath.org to learn more about some of the issues covered. I want to thank NYSPA’s Clinical Division and Independent Practice Division for their monetary contributions to this event. Finally, none of this would have been possible without the cooperative efforts of our wonderful Board, but especially Sarah Nolan.
